The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Bola Tinubu, has announced Senator Kashim Shettima as his running mate.
Tinubu himself had announced this while addressing journalists in Katsina State.
This is coming hours after , Tinubu’s initial nominee Kabiru Masari had resigned his nomination as well as the APC candidate’s meeting with the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and the Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari.
Following his victory at the APC primaries, Tinubu had the challenge of picking a running mate and had thus settled for Kabiru Masari as a placeholder while extending his consultations with the various stakeholders in the system. In the course of such consultations a number of names were thrown up including the Governor Umara Zulum of Borno State, Nasir El Rufai of Kaduna State and Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State.
There was also the news that governors under the platform of the All Progressives Congress had insisted that one of their own ought to be Tinubu’s running mate .
With the nomination of Shettima, the APC candidate may have ended speculations about who his running mate would be as well as ended the question of whether the APC would run on a Muslim Muslim ticket.
Shettimma had served as a commissioner in the Ali Modu Sherrif administration before he was elected to be Governor of Borno State.in 2011. Following the completion of his eight year tenure Shettima was to seek election into the Senate, winning with a massive majority.
A founding member of the All Progressives Congress, Shettima was also a major backer of Senator Tinubu during the presidential primary race.
