Haruna Tukur,FCT- Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents today laid waste to a school and hospital as they attacked Katarko community in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.
This was confirmed to us by residents of the area who said that the insurgents arrived very early in the morning shooting their guns and eventually burning down one primary school and healthcare centre in the community.
One witness had this to say:
“When we heard gunshots, we quickly rushed to our houses and alerted our neighbours to run for safety.
“As we were moving to the bush not far from the house, we sighted fire burning the school, so we advance but we later received a call that they have left and as we returned, we found the clinic in our area burning into flames.
“We also learnt that the insurgents headed to the military base were they exchanged fire with the troops.”
However, no casualties were reported while efforts to reach security officials or those of the Yobe State Government proved abortive.
