Igboeli Arinze & David Ogbonna- Following the drama that played out at the unsealing of the Royal Spring Hotel Owerri between government officials of Imo State and a former Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha, realpoliticsnigeria.ng has gathered reasons why Uzodinma moved against the Senator.
It was discovered that Rochas sensing that he had lost control of the structure of the All Progressives Congress in Imo State owing to Governor Hope’s refusal to concede any structures within the state or his Senatorial zone to him , had begun a number of subterranean moves hoping to get the better of the incumbent governor.
One of such moves was the return of Uche Nwosu, Rochas’ son in law and choice of the former for the APC ticket in the 2019 elections before Uzodinma beat him to the ticket. Nwosu had gone to the Supreme Court urging it to order “that both the Action Alliance and the All Progressives Congress, APC did not sponsor or field any candidate for the Guber election held in Imo State on 9th March, 2019.” Readers would recall that in an earlier court judgement, the candidature of Uche Nwosu as candidate of the Action Alliance, AA had been nullified as the court held that at the time he Nwosu obtained the AA ticket he was also the APC candidate. Uche Nwosu’s return to court was seen as the first open declaration of war.
The Imo North Senatorial Seat battle was another declaration of war, now while the governor had backed Frank Ibezim for the slot, Okorocha had backed Ifeanyi Ararume, the contest which as at this time remains inconclusive witnessed the deployment of proxy forces between the duo,Rochas’ had even boasted that he would defeat the governor even with the Federal Government backing Uzodinma.
Also, with Okorocha envisaging that his status in the APC in Imo State was diminishing, it was reported that he had begun toying with the formation of a new platform. Pundits in Imo and the SouhtEast would readily agree that Okorocha remains a force in Imo politics, if care was not taken , the Senator would cause some havoc come 2023 and 2024, when Governor Uzodinma would probably be seeking a second, this then was the time to strike!
Dusting the white paper from the panel of enquiry set up by the Ihedioha led administration. The Uzodinma administration began it’s implementation.
Speaking to our journalist, a source who craved anonymity, told realpolitics.ng that the Imo State government would go out fully for Sen. Okorocha using all legal means before it to recover all that Okorocha had allotted to himself and family using Imo State funds while he served as governor.
The source also agreed that with Okorocha expected to fight back, the governor would continue to push for more assets originally owned by the state but linked to the Okorochas and their associates to be seized or taken over by the state government.
This way, they intend to muzzle him , thereby rendering him weak and impotent before 2023 and 2024.
