KingsleyNwabude, Awka- Following the announcement that People’s Democratic Party had adopted to zone it’s gubernatorial ticket to the Anambra South Senatorial District for which many had sought to use to sound the death knell to the aspiration of Senator Uche Ekwunife to be governor of the state come 2021, the Senator has reacted to such a report dismissing it as untrue.
realpoliticsnigeria.ng gathered this from aides and a number of party chieftains who had attended the meeting proper.
” I can tell you categorically that Senator Uche Ekwunife is still in the race, she is very much in the race, disregard fake news as there was no point in time that zoning was discussed at the meeting. The people carrying out such news are jokers as they know that Senator Ekwunife is already ahead in the race and that it will take a number of miracles to dislodge her from such a gallop to the ticket and eventually winning the gubernatorial race” an aide said.
Another source, a chieftain within the party who did not want his name to be mentioned also lent credibility to what our earlier source had told us denouncing such news as dead on arrival. The chieftain even went on to say that even if the ticket was zoned to Anambra South Senatorial District that it still would favour Ekwunife who as a woman was from Igbo-Ukwu and was entitled to claim either that town or her husband’s place while in the race, wondering why the hullabaloo over such falsehood.
Readers would recall that following a meeting of PDP chieftains in Enugu, it was alleged that the ticket had been zoned to Anambra South which many had interpreted as putting paid to the ambitions of a number of aspirants from other zones.
Although none of the major contenders from the South had celebrated the news of zoning, realpoliticsnigeria.ng gathered that many of them had celebrated the news as the Anambra Central Senator was perceived as a first tier threat to their ambitions. Matter of fact is that the news had so swamped the airwaves that certain forces in another major party, APC had also asked the party to follow the steps of the PDP.
