Haruna Tukur, FCT– The Presidency has today said that there was no certain date set for the appointment of a new Inspector General of Police for the Nigeria Police Force.
This was stated by the Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity , Garba Shehu while he was a guest of Sunrise Daily on Channels Television.
Shehu, while he was drawn to the question of the possibility of President Buhari appointing a new IGP, announced that there was no new date set yet, for the announcement of a new Inspector-Generalof Police.
With the current IGP, Mohammed Adamu’s tenure set to come to an end today, there have been speculations that the president will appoint a new IGP to steer the affairs of the police force.
Shehu said he is not aware of the imminent announcement of a new police chief.
“The President returns to Abuja on Tuesday” he said. “He should be on his desk by Wednesday I don’t know when he will do this.
One thingI can assure you is that in places sensitivelike that, there is no vacuum that will subsist so therefore the system will take care of itself.
The presidential spokesperson also stated that the appointment of the next IGP will not be based on ethnic considerations.
