The Governor of Kogi, Yahaya Bello, has pooh-poohed the procurement of Covid 19 vaccines by the Federal Government citing that he would prefer that the government directs it’s attention to uplifting the nation’s economy.
Bello allegedly stated this whilst addressing members of the press.
With the release of vaccines to fight Covid 19 by Pfizer and Moderna , the Federal Government had announced that it may spend about $1.4bn (N540.4bn, at
the official exchange rate of S1: N386) to
procure and distribute 218,400,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines.
Bello described the billions of naira to be spent on Covid vaccines as wrong direction of the government’s priority.
“All these brouhaha coming up about
Covid-19 and vaccines, I don’t think we
deserve it now. We have a struggling
economy that Mr President inherited,
recession, low income, left, right, and centre and Mr President is doing his best to pull out of the woods
Those of us charged with the responsibility of advising Mr President should do that with utmost fear”
He also described the calls for a lockdown as inimical to the nation’s economy.
