Igboeli Arinze, FCT – The Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege (APC, Delta Central) has in the light of the uproar generated by the numerous extrajudicial killing by the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) has called for a probe into the squad’s activities.
Omo-Agege, stated this while condemning the activities of SARS in a statement made available to realpoliticsnigeria.ng.
He based his calls for the probe on the recent alleged twin shooting of two young men in Delta State, owing to their refusal to allow the operatives to search their phones, stating the need for comprehensive reforms and overhaul of security units in the country.
He called on the security personnel to always maintain the rules of engagement in enforcing the law as well as called on the youths in the area to show restraint while investigations into the matter was ongoing.
He said: “Those who are authorised to bear arms and maintain law and order must ensure that such must be exercised with responsibility especially when human life is sacrosanct”
“I hope those who are quick at pulling the trigger would adopt strategies that would foster mutual understanding between them and those they are tasked to protect, in their bid to save the twist of fate for them to be listed among those contributing to the list of the list of the dead in this challenging period globally.”
