Igboeli Following the transmission of the Petroleum Industry Bill to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari, members of the National Assembly today met with the Nigerian National Petroleum
Corporation (NNPC) over the Bill.
Real Politics Nigeria gathered that the meeting was to understand the direction and focus of the PIB which was recently sent to the National Assembly.
Speaking, the Senate President, Senator Ahmed Lawan (Yobe North, APC) said the president’s letter containing the PIB will be read
on the floor of both chambers when the National Assembly resumes plenary session tomorrow.
Lawan stated that all the National Assembly wants to see is an oil industry that will be regulated, beneficial to Nigerians and attract investment.
He also gave the assurance that the National Assembly will pass the PlB as soon as possible.
On his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila (Surulere Federal Constituency, APC) emphasized the lawmakers commitment in the passage of the bill, he however noted that they will not sacrifice thoroughness at the alter of speed.
He also announced that the House has assembled a team of legislators who are knowledgeable about the industry to work on the PIB.
Asides Lawan and Gbajabiamila, the meeting also had in its attendance the Minister of State Petroleum, Timipre Sylva and the NNPC boss, Mele Kyari.
